Tom Tom Welcomes Kauffman Foundation to Summits

The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation will co-present Summit’s Entrepreneurship & Ecosystem Program with stakeholders from the University of Virginia and highlight national leaders and models

APRIL 5, 2018 – Tom Tom announced today the participation of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation in its entrepreneurship, investment, and ecosystem building program at the Seventh Annual Founders Festival, April 9-15, 2018. Tom Tom, a celebration of inclusive innovation in small cities, will take place in downtown Charlottesville, VA, and will convene 20,000 attendees from across the US to advance a hopeful vision for innovation in American industry and civic life.

Kauffman will be joining entrepreneurial stakeholders at the University of Virginia, such as the Batten Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Darden School of Business and the Galant Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the McIntire School of Commerce, which are both flagship initiatives at two of the premier graduate and undergraduate business programs in the nation.

Founding Stories Keynotes, Friday 4/13 These inspirational talks feature entrepreneurs who have revolutionized industries and enriched our world, across a variety of backgrounds and disciplines. 2018 keynotes include UVA alum Steve Huffman, CEO & Cofounder of Reddit.

. Founding While Female, Friday 4/13 Focusing on the startup challenges faced by women entrepreneurs in part of the Founders Luncheons series.

. “Fighting Inequality with Finance,” Thursday, 4/12 – Featuring IDEO’s Peter Jackson, co-architect of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which has shielded millions of Americans from predatory lenders, and the Darden School’s Greg Fairchild, “2017 MBA professor of the year”

The Kauffman Foundation is a private, nonpartisan foundation that works with entrepreneurs, ecosystem builders and support organizations in cities across the country on programs such as 1 Million Cups and Kauffman FastTrac.

“We could not be more excited to announce this exciting collaboration with the Kauffman Foundation,” commented Tom Tom’s Executive Director, Paul Beyer. “Joining partners at the University of Virginia, the festival is able to tell the story of high-impact entrepreneurship on the global stage, as well as community-based initiatives, ecosystem building, and research that impacts Charlottesville and cities like it across the country.


“Our founder, Mr. Kauffman, believed it was a fundamental right for anyone who had a big idea to be able to bring it to life,” said Chris Harris, Senior Program Officer in Entrepreneurship at the Kauffman Foundation. “We work with entrepreneurs — and those who fight for entrepreneurs — to empower them with the tools and resources they need be successful. At Tom Tom, we’re highlighting some of these key resources.”

Notable Summit speakers for 2018 include: Iconic journalist Dan Rather; John Cleese, New York Times bestseller Elisabeth Rosenthal; Obama Domestic Policy Director Melody Barnes; Honest Tea founder Seth Goldman; Pulitzer Prize-winner Amy Goldstein; Atlantic national correspondent Jim Fallows; IDEO’s Peter Jackson; Buzzfeed senior editor Anne Helen Peterson; and many others from MIT, Harper’s Bazaar, CityLab, Governing Magazine, NPR, Slate, Spotify, the New York Times, and more.
