Then you took part in something truly iconic for Charlottesville! In a cultural experience that brought EVERYONE together, the air hummed with laughter and good vibes as majorette teams danced, marching bands marched, and hip-hop and go-go filled the air.
Be a part of bringing it back each year!
If you saw the vitality of the attendees, the kids, and the families, it's because this was a free and accessible event in the heart of the city, featuring local performers from many different neighborhoods, all sharing their gifts and enjoying the Downtown Mall.

This celebration needs YOU and each of US to make it happen.
Each year, 25,000+ people come downtown for this beautiful celebration. If every attendee were charged admission, our costs would be covered, but that’s not the party we’re trying to put on! In addition to waiving admission, we also receive no alcohol or concession revenue. We elect to have an ABC permit for the block party in which all food and beverage income is retained by the restaurants, supporting local businesses that still struggle with lingering effects from the pandemic.
Events are not cheap, even when they’re free.
While we receive some generous corporate support, sponsorship only covers about half of our costs. Behind the scenes of this iconic event, expenses add up quickly for things like required police and security presence, liability insurance, A/V equipment, payment for all bands and performers, and more.
Let’s ensure this stays an annual tradition for Charlottesville!
